#NeverTrumpers Ramp up attacks on Kevin Nicholson
One of the oddities of the Wisconsin GOP Senate Primary is that #NeverTrumpers seem to be in the tank for State Senator Leah Vukmir, despite her current pro-Trump rhetoric. But some of the loudest anti-Trump and #NeverTrump voices are supporting Sen. Vukmir. The #NeverTrump voices in the media are now ramping up their attacks on Marine Kevin Nicholson as we approach the State Republican Party Convention in Milwaukee.
Sen. Vukmir was a late supporter of Donald Trump in the 2016 election. She initially endorsed Marco Rubio in October 2015, and then finally came around to Trump just before the November election. A leftwing website says Sen. Vukmir was #NeverTrump at first:
“Moreover, ALEC stalwarts like ALEC President Leah Vukmir, a State Senator from Wisconsin, were part of a “never Trump” team that first endorsed Marco Rubio, before rallying behind Ted Cruz, helping to put Wisconsin into the unlikely Cruz column in the GOP primary.”
Now as Vukmir runs for US Senate, many of Vukmir’s loudest supporters and Nicholson’s loudest critics are anti-Trump.
Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke (R-Kaukauna) is Leah Vukmir’s first listed State Assembly endorser and is also a #NeverTrump leader.
In March 2016, Steineke penned an open letter to Trump supporters on RightWisconsin, where he called Trump a “fraud” and framed the race between Hillary and Trump as “a choice between a crook and a morally bankrupt con man is no real choice at all” (this hasn’t aged well). He vowed to “always be #NeverTrump.” Even since the election, Steineke has continued to be critical of President Trump.
RightWisconsin Blogger James Wigderson seems to be obsessed with attacking Kevin Nicholson as of late. He has regularly framed the US Senate race in favorable terms for Vukmir, revealing his personal bias. A quick review of his last month of blog posts reveals Wigderson has given Nicholson negative treatment in 5 of the 9 posts (with 4 of the posts being neutral treatment — no positive treatment among the 9 posts). Disturbingly, he has only written twice about Sen. Baldwin over the same period, both with critical blog posts.
Wigderson has long been #NeverTrump. In July 2016, Widgerson said, “voting for Donald Trump is so anathema to everything we believe and stand for, it would be impossible to vote for him. One of the ironies of being in Wisconsin is there is no way Donald Trump can win here, so our consciences are clear.” But Trump did in fact win Wisconsin and the presidency. Since the election, Wigderson has tried to ignore Trump on his blog, but criticizes him regularly. It seems like a dinosaur grasping at straws to remain relevant.
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Columnist and Blogger Christian Schneider has ramped up the attacks on Kevin Nicholson, dedicating two pieces to criticizing him last week alone.
Christian has long been very critical of Donald Trump and has recently called Trump “America’s Snowflake in Chief” and said Trump has “unmasked himself as one of the most thin-skinned, overly-sensitive politicians America has ever seen.”
Leah Vukmir recently touted the endorsement of Boots and Sabers blogger Owen Robinson. In October 2016, Robinson blogged about his #NeverTrump position, claiming “but when it comes to Trump, I think he is equally as dangerous to our Republic as Hillary.”
Former RightWisconsin Blogger Kevin Binversie has been increasing his tweets complaining about Kevin Nicholson. Binversie was a long adherent of #NeverTrump.
Former Talk Radio Host Jerry Bader blasted Nicholson this week after admitting he had not listened to the radio interview in question. Bader claimed he was fired from his radio hosting gig for his #NeverTrump views.
