The Wisconsin Democratic Gubernatorial Primary is heating up. Madison’s Congressman Mark Pocan bashed Democratic candidate for governor (and former primary opponent of Pocan’s).

Pocan says he thinks Kelda Roys “probably regrets” a comment she made several years ago at a gay pride rally that wrongly implied she is gay. Pocan says he was at the 2011 rally where Roys talked about fleeing Wisconsin with her “partner” to get married in Iowa. At the time, gay marriage was legal in Iowa but not in Wisconsin.

Pocan explained that Roys had made several bad political calculations during the 2012 Congressional Democratic primary and he hopes Roys has changed since then. While these comments may seem to be a mild rebuke, it will undoubtedly feed Roys’ six primary opponents.

The fact that these comments are coming out now, also indicate that Roys primary opponents see that he is picking up steam. If she was in last place, we wouldn’t be hearing about this from Congressman Pocan.

The winner of the August 14 Democratic primary will take on Republican Governor Scott Walker this fall.
